<span style="background-color: #e5e5e5; color: #333333; font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif; line-height: 35px;"><b>Not a great deal for Australians</b></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">There are a s few listed apps for Australia, but in all honesty most are crap, there is no decent DLNA app to cast your local files from, though they do seem to be coming, slowly... Plex is great, but you need to run the Plex server on a PC that can run it, I want something that can run on a Raspberry Pi, so I can leave it on 24/7, instead of having to run my desktop PC!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Of course most apps don't care what country you are in, but some like Netflix do and it sucks!</span><br />

Well, look at that Google finally graced us with the pleasure of buying there "new" to Australia anyway, Chromecast, yep you can finally buy it through the Google Play store, on this occasion I bought my unit from Dick Smith, I must commend the Dick Smith online store, I ordered the Chromecast at about 1.00pm I guess and it was delivered at about 3.00pm the next day, so well done Dick Smith online store very prompt service indeed!<br />
<br />
The Chromecast is a "USB flash drive sized" media centre well sort of, it's a nifty little gadget that can link to your wireless network and cast video files and music files to your TV via a HDMI input. I have used MythTV for years, it's the best media centre you can't buy, but I love gadgets, I love cheap but quality gadgets the most lol. I have tested it playing a Google Movies free movie I got with my nexus and it really does work fine.<br />
<br />
Apps for the Chromecast are not that prevalent, yet, though more and more relevant apps are enabling the Google Cast feature into their apps and the Google Chrome Browser has an extension that can cast the Browser's screen to your TV, think about that, it means anything the browser can view, you shoiuld be able to cast that view to your TV as one guy said it was very handy when explaining how to do something web related to his Grandfather, you can't use the mouse, but the browser viewer is large. The Youtube Chromecast app is excellent.<br />
<br />
Google Music plays just fine and has a fireplace visualization that "fires" up after a few seconds from memory, haven't timed it though lol. I wonder if they have a different visualization for summer as it's winter in Oz at the moment...the fireplace is nice!<br />
<br />
Apparently there is a Netflix app and of course there is a work around to be able to access Netflix, I will look into this and report back when I do it.<br />
<br />
At the moment I am trying a Chromecast app that does a bit of DLNA, Facebook, Google photos casting called Avia, it looks promising but it's a little buggy and only plays certain video files, too many types are not properly supported, some files will play video but no sound, some video file types will just throw an error on Avia and won't play at all, I really would like a decent DLNA app that just picks up your network files that are served with DLNA. Yes of course I can just play the files over the network normally, with my setup I just play them through DLNA on my Panasonic PLASMA TV, the casting though gives me some nice options and for about $50 for the Chromecast, I can live with the lack of needed features for now!<br />
<br />
If you have a PLEX media Server on your PC or NAS you are in luck, you can cast your files from a PLEX app for Chromecast, so for now I would still recommend it as I'm sure some people will be able to take advantage of the full suite of features.<br />
<br />
Edit: I run Zoneminder for Camera surveillance I just realised the app "tinyCam Monitor Pro" has the ability to cast the live camera image on the big screen TV, I paid for the Pro version so I'm not sure if the casting is available on the free version, you can get the app from the link below, the link is to the Pro Version :)<br />

<h3>
<b>Network Mount Western Digital's MyBook Live! on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr</b></h3>
<b><br /></b>
When you mount your external hard drives to your network it really does make life so much easier to move files around the various devices attached to your network as does ftp'ing into your drives, which I will discuss later.<br />
<br />
Let's start, open your favourite Command Line Interface terminal (I just use the standard ubuntu terminal, suits me fine)<br />
<br />
You will need to create a folder or more correctly a directory, that you link the external drive to so you can access it as a normal folder on your PC<br />
<br />
<b>sudo mkdir /media/mybooklive</b><br />
<i>(you can name the folder anything, just remember the name you use, so you can use it in the fstab entry as seen below!)</i><br />
<br />
Insert the following line to the bottom of your machines fstab file, so from the terminal enter the following lines depending on your preference.<br />
<br />
<b>sudo gedit /etc/fstab</b><br />
or<br />
<b>sudo nano /etc/fstab</b><br />
<b><br /></b>
Now add the line below to the bottom of the fstab file, make sure you save it.<br />
<br />
<b>//192.168.X.X/Public /media/mybooklive cifs guest,uid=1000,iocharset=utf8 0 0</b><br />
<br />
you will need to reboot the PC or enter the following into the terminal, this will remount everything in the fstab file, it should tell you if there are any problems when you hit enter after the command, if all is well, nothing will be listed and your MyBook should be showing up in your network list.<br />
<br />
<b>sudo mount -a</b><br />
<br />
I just used the line as is, I only changed the network address 192.168.xxx.xxx to the MyBook Live! as I said you can change the Directory name but it must be the same in the line you insert into the fstab file.<br />
<br />
I did this with the MyBook Live! model shown below...<br />
<br />

<span style="color: #073763; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Three Examples of Camera Configuration for Zoneminder</span></h2>
<div>
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">My first camera I bought for surveillance was an Edimax IC-520 from memory, a network camera with a resolution of 640x480px, it also has the great fisheye lens feature, I now believe a fisheye lens is an absolute must after using non fisheye lens cameras for Zoneminder. The Edimax sure is a reliable camera and definitely good enough for a surveillance camera.</span></div>

The external USB storage drive is the only thing that gives me bother with the pi, originally I had an external IDE hard drive in my external case. It started out working fine and I'm sure it did so the whole time. The Raspberry Pi seemed to lose connection to the drive, it messed with Torrents and NZB's, SabNZBD and Transmission daemon were and still are the only extra packages I have installed of course along with their dependencies.<br />
<br />
If you had both running you needed to download at about 250KB/s, more, the RPI seemed to bog down the higher speed you downloaded at. It's still a damn handy always on Torrent client and NZB downloader that is on 24/7, 365 days a year.<br />
<br />
I decided to rearrange my drives, I purchased two 2.5 hard drive enclosures and one 2.5 WD 300GB hard drive disk. I have a decent four port hub that should power it no problems, hopefully... So far so good, the new disk is working admirably, there was a few hiccups on the whole install process, but lots of searching on Google and forums had me finding the answers no worries.<br />
<br />
I also thought it about time I bought a USB SATA dock used for inserting sata hard drives so they can be plugged in to a USB port on your computer, no screws just plug in a drive and go, start accessing your hard drive contents right away! The two external hard drive enclosures I bought are nice and slim and just small in general, dinky little cases really but will do their intended job just fine.Darinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02115027823927486765noreply@blogger.com0Australia-25.274398 133.77513599999997-75.0697345 51.157948499999975 24.520938499999996 -143.60767650000003tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2365286001836230588.post-9004545933889589102013-12-19T02:29:00.000+11:002014-02-04T00:56:18.917+11:00Google Cloud Print - Brother Printer<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Google does it again, I would hate to think how much all their services would cost if we had to pay for them. I thought it would be a pain in the arse to setup with an older "non cloud print ready" printer but my USB router attached Brother printer was detected immediately, wonderful.<br />
<br />
Makes you wonder how integrated Google is in your life and in your Computer lol. I have tested printing from my Nexus 4 and Nexus 7, there are more apps that you can download to give it more functionality.<br />
<br />
I'm trying some of the apps and plugins out to see how they perform. Different apps allow Google Cloud Print to print from many diiferent applications installed on your devices.<br />

I have just one unit, I decided to get the Pi to see if it could run Torrents and Usenet on the one box, a low energy alternative to running a desktop pc 24/7. I have managed to have a very workable solution, for Torrents, I use Transmission, for Usenet, I use Sabnzbd, I am using the Raspbian OS for the Raspberry Pi. I used a combination of CLI and Gui on the Desktop to configure settings etc.<br />
<br />
I did reinstall the Operating System once so far, I'm always fiddling with things so it was all my own fault. For the latest install I used the new Noobs Installer, not a bad way to go for what I needed, it all worked perfectly. I will list the tutorials that helped me to install Sabnzbd and TransmissionBT. It's all been a great success, I might try XBMC on a Pi next...<br />
<br />
<h3>
</h3>
<h3>
Transmission installed on the Pi</h3>
<div>
I just found a decent tutorial on the web for installing Transmission, the following link served me well, of course you may need to tweak a few things, change a few paths etc.</div>
<div>
<i>Click the link below for a "how to" for installing Transmission Daemon on the Raspberry Pi</i></div>

<h3>
Sabnzbd Installed on the Pi</h3>
<div>
Once again I searched for the appropriate "How to" online for installing Sabnzbd on the Raspberry Pi and once again you may need to tweak and adjut things for your install.</div>
<div>

<br /></div>
<div>
I will also list information on other needed software etc. I followed the tutorials above to set everything up, I also don't run the same settings on the Raspberry Pi as I would on a Desktop PC, I try not to stress the little Pi out too much.</div>

I was with Savvytel, but they stuffed me around, they were in liquidation and then not, it was such a mess and Savvytel was saying nothing about what was going on. It has been about six months since they've had new sim cards, they couldn't state when they would be receiving new sims, it was extremely frustrating, the staff just lied when ever you asked them for details, they are not a company to be trusted.<br />

Along came Aldi, yep a supermarket with a Mobile Phone Service Provider, although I have used their supermarkets twice now, I don't have one close to me now<br />

I very recently received delivery of an <b>Extreme Q Vaporizer</b>, I suppose you would class it as a decent medium, personally so far I'd rate it a nine, mainly because there is no such thing as perfection IMO. I have been using the <i>"elbow packing" </i>method with the whip attachment and manually drawing in the vapour.<br />
<br />
I will have to try the balloon method as well at some stage, that appears to be quite a good way to use the Extreme Q as well. It comes with a "potpourri bowl" that could be worthwhile trying as well.<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">The <i>Extreme Q Vaporizer</i> provides you with just about every possible vaporizing option you could ever imagine, all rolled into one amazing product.</span><br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<em><span style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">"It is the only vaporizer available to have a remote control activation system,
letting you change settings with a greater amount of ease. The Extreme Q
also provides you with both whip and balloon vaporization methods, in
case you don’t want to be restricted to just one way all of the time.
The product also works as an ambient aromatherapy unit, perfect for keeping your home smelling nice throughout the day."</span></em></blockquote>

So I needed to get ten dollars of Bitcoins, never used them before, all sounds a bit dodgy if you ask me, I like the idea of being able to make anonymous payments, I would love to donate to Wikileaks for example, I believe you can donate to Wikileaks with Bitcoins, I never got that far! Getting Bitcoins is not like using paypal, there seems to be all these layers, because of my circumstances (a disability I have) I can't just drive or walk down to the bank which is about one kilometre away, So I tried to do it with Paypal after seeing that some businesses can convert Paypal money into Bitcoins, it's all very confusing and my foggy brain found none of this easy. After a bit of searching on Google I came across www.bitcoinberudechange.com seemed legit and there was only one reference to them being a scam on a Google search, but they are new to the Bitcoin game so alarm bells should have gone off.<br />
<br />
This is the site it's a forum about Bitcoins https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=122319.0 as you can see there is only the original post and one comment, there was another site that is like a website scam indicator, http://www.scamadviser.com/is-bitcoinberudechange.com-safe.html their tentative report as the site is young was listed as possible scam, but once again nothing definitive. Oh and of course BBDC have the obligatory review or testimonial page, I left two reviews and of course neither was posted, they don't allow negative reviews, so take their reviews with a container load of salt, you aren't getting the truth from all people who have used them lol.<br />
<br />
I added the money to BBDC on the third of January, at the time of writing it is now tenth of January and I've submitted a dispute with Paypal, I doubt I will get my $20 USD back, but will now do my best to ensure others don't get ripped off like I was, I'm glad I was ripped off only $20 USD and not hundreds or thousands of dollars, The BBDC website is hosted in the US but appears to be ran from the UK across the pond, that's a bit dodgy as well. Their testimonial page is filled with "people" who say the transaction was done in a couple of hours, well I'm still waiting a week later and no Bitcoins have appeared in my wallet. I asked them why it was taking so long and they said Paypal had a hold on the money, the thing is though that you can ring Paypal and ask them if that is correct, so I did and no it was not correct that they were holding my money, another indicator that they are very loose with the truth.<br />
<br />
I left it a few more days and now I was quite angry definitely starting to believe that seeing my money or Bitcoins was looking like it was never going to happen well guess what I was right, no Paypal refund, no Bitcoins and they have blocked my IP so I can only send them an email and apart from an auto reply they are not answering me at all now.<br />
<br />
I can only conclude from all available evidence and my own experience that BBDC www.bitcoinberudechange.com are not converting Paypal money to Bitcoins they are just taking your money and that's where it ends, remember I have tried to contact them, they have banned my IP address and are totally ignoring me, I have two emails from them which I will pass on to Paypal as evidence, but as I say I do doubt that I will get my 20.00 USD back either to Paypal or in Bitcoins. This is the email address that they use on Paypal, one of many no doubt, this is all the info I have on them from the Paypal transaction (below)<br />
<br />
Name: hayleigh davies (The recipient of this payment is Non-US – Verified)<br />
Email: hayleighdavies2012@hotmail.com<br />
Payment Sent to: payments@bethelook.co.uk<br />
<br />
You will see that bethelook.co.uk is just a parked web domain, so none of it is looking legit!<br />
<br />
Will I use Bitcoins again? One day I will when I can get to a bank, but I will never use BBDC or anyone that says they can use Paypal money to convert to Bitcoins, I have since found out through googling that Paypal don't allow these types of transactions, my naivety has come back to bite me on the arse, I'm glad it only cost me $20 USD, I did learn a valuable lesson though and it was quite a cheap lesson which is a positive :)<br />
<br />
Oh I will definitely update this blog if Paypal can reverse the transaction, but honestly it's looking doubtful, BBDC seem to be expert liars!<br />

As I have said before elsewhere, I've recently moved house, it is a new journey in exploring and finding the services and shops you need to access, at the moment I am on a "whole type foods" kick, I much prefer having food delivered rather than going into actual "bricks and mortar" stores, in fact I prefer to get everything delivered these days where possible. It removes that impulse buying and that queuing at the checkout which I abhor, oh and don't get me started on the parking lol.<br />
<br />
I usually use Coles Online and although they are acceptable and I have no major problems with the online shopping service they offer, they did piss me off recently with a stupid survey that was more like a fucking Psychometric test than a regular survey, so I have decided that I need to look elsewhere for my online food shopping, although I will still use Coles until I can source the things I need from other suppliers but I am on a mission to not use Coles Online any more if I can achieve that, I will be happy. So far I have had one delivery and just made my second order today, as I say I am on a mission to find the best quality food at a decent price that I can order online and have it delivered to my door, so far the whole Mercatus shopping experience has been top notch, please understand that it's not just about prices for me it's also about the ordering and payment options and the website, I can categorically say that the website is excellent, it's easy to navigate, easy to understand, no stupid bloody pop ups or confusing "systems", immediate payment by credit card, none of this taking the money out some time during the following week crap, like going into a regular shop, I need to pay for what I want right then and there, I am referring to my rather frustrating experience with "Aussie Farmers Direct" which I ranted about previously.<br />
<br />
Mercatus so far, ticks all the boxes for me, of course I have only placed two orders and one of them will be delivered next Tuesday, but first impressions couldn't really be any better, Mercatus will definitely be my main place to get meat (of all kinds), seafood and whatever fresh vegetables I need, they even have a "Game Meat" section and other cuts you don't seem to be able to get from supermarket butchers and let's face it supermarkets often have poor quality meat and vegetables when you compare them to your local butcher or fruit and veg stores. Anyway before you get all excited with my wonderful review of Mercatus, you should first check out where they deliver to, click the following link below for that information luckily I am in the "zone" woo hoo.<br />
<br />
http://www.mercatus.com.au/delivery<br />
<br />
Don't forget with delivery, sometimes it might be possible to get the food delivered to your place of work rather than your home, if you have a cool boss this will be much easier lol.<br />
<br />
In summing up, I am an online shopper whenever I can do it the online way, so I do have experience with other stores, I know what I am talking about and I have no affiliation with Mercatus, but I do believe in giving credit for a job well done and I also think that if I can help a good business flourish it means I will have ongoing access to a decent place to buy my food. I dislike supermarkets, despise large shopping centres and prefer to have my food delivered where possible, like the old days :) . Oh and they use paper bags just like the old days, I love it!<br />

I moved premises recently, I had about a week to organise everything, I was moving from a two bedroom unit/small house to basically what is classed as a "bedsit" about 1/3 of the size of where I was previously. Most would say why the hell would you do that? I moved from Meadow Heights to Essendon North do I need to say more, didn't think so, plus I have a disability (multiple sclerosis) so I also despise being stuffed around, I need things to be easy and sometimes I need things explained more than once.<br />
<br />
I didn't have the money to get a removalist and have them organise it all, so a friend has a Ute and I have a station wagon, anyway I needed to put some of the bigger things into storage until I knew exactly what I required at my new place and what could actually "fit in", always a pain, each new house is different what fits here might not fit into the new place. So I consulted google and the Yellow pages and found a company that wasn't too far away from both houses,<br />
<br />
I found <b>Alsafe Domestic and Commercial Self Storage</b> in Campbellfield, I'm always wary of dealing with new businesses, though dealing with this business was a pleasure, mainly because of the lovely lady Rose who we dealt with. Nothing was too difficult for her (within reason), I was lucky enough to be able to get some funding help organised by a social worker at the MS Society, I won't mention her name because I didn't ask if I could lol.<br />
<br />
Rose was very helpful with having to liase with the social worker and myself as we tried to organise everything, it all went smoothly, the storage units were clean and secure and very easy to access, so all in all a great experience that I am very thankful for, I definitely recommend Alsafe for your storage needs.<br />

Recently
I moved house, well actually from a small house, to an even smaller
flat for want of a better word, at my previous residence, I was about
2760 metres cable (telephone line) distance from the telephone exchange,
going by ADSL2 exchanges website > <a href="http://goo.gl/pt33m">http://goo.gl/pt33m</a> (<strong>You are 2045 m from SRTN as the crow flies. Estimated cable length of 2760.75 m. Estimated speed of 8666 Zone 1</strong>), that's where I used to live, so I was never going to get great speeds at that distance. <br />
<br />
I had two modems I used to play around with, in the hope to get the
best speeds I could, a Netcomm NB6 and a Draytek 120 and always hooked
up a separate router in the mix. At that distance the Draytek120 sucked,
upload speed was better but download speed was worse, the Netcomm NB6
had the best download speed but the upload speed was not as good. These
are smallish differences but when you live so far from the exchange you
want to try everything you can to squeeze the best out of your poor
speeds.<br />
<br />
I was with iPrimus Naked at my previous address and stayed with
them when I moved, I thought it would be easier to relocate with them
than go with someone else, I was actually out of contract, but iPrimus
aren't too bad and they have Australian's manning there customer service
and tech support help lines, sorry, but to me that is important, not a
deal breaker, but I prefer to speak to Australians and it helps to keep
Aussies employed, which is a good thing in this day and age of
outsourcing everything by companies. I must say though while the
connection was being located we found out iPrimus had been sold, time
will tell whether things turn to shit with the new owners or hopefully
not.<br />
<br />
I moved to Essendon North I won't put my new address here, well
because I just don't want to, but here's what ADSL2+ website says <strong>You are 1012 m from NESS as the crow flies. Estimated cable length of 1568.6 m. Estimated speed of 17000 Zone 1</strong> so as you can see I am a lot closer to the telephone exchange I will post my speed results below<br />
<br />
From the Oz Broadband Speed Test website<br />
<a href="http://www.ozspeedtest.com/">http://www.ozspeedtest.com/</a><br />
<a href="http://www.ozspeedtest.com/bandwidth-test/results/20664466">http://www.ozspeedtest.com/bandwidth-test/results/20664466</a><br />
<br />
From the Speedtest.net website<br />
<a href="http://www.speedtest.net/">http://www.speedtest.net/</a><br />
<a href="http://www.speedtest.net/result/1923463822.png">http://www.speedtest.net/result/1923463822.png</a><br />
<br />
As you can see my speeds are very decent now compared to what I used
to get at my previous residence and I am over the moon, I still want the
NBN but until that eventuates if ever I am more than happy with the
results, finally I can use my previously unused Draytek 120 modem. If we
had the NBN, everybody, no matter how far you live from your telephone
exchange would get the speed that they had signed up for, this will be
the difference of what we have now, 100 times better internet access
with the NBN, I say 100 times better because it will fix so many
problems with our ageing copper network that Telstra has a monopoly on
at the moment. So you may not want to vote for a Labor government at the
next election but just remember, if you vote for the Liberal/National
coalition they will destroy the NBN, no doubt about it!</div>

I'm
not sure how long these stickers have been around, but I heard about
them and ordered some, if you don't like being disturbed by door to door
salespeople I suggest you do the same, order a few to give to friends,
family and neighbours, I think it is also important we protect our
vulnerable from these leeches, give one to elderly friends and
neighbours, so they don't get sucked in by these door to door liars,
they work on commission, so they do anything to get a sale. Wouldn't it
be great to get your whole street on board.<br />
<br />
Well I have had the "Do Not Knock" sticker attached to my front door
for a few weeks now and I have not had one salesman, of course they may
not be in the area at the moment, I will report back with an update if
anything changes in regards to door knocking salesman.<br />
Legal status of "Do Not Knock" Sticker<br />
<br />
The short version:<br />
<blockquote>
<strong>A salesperson who ignores your do not knock sticker is committing trespass</strong>.</blockquote>
<blockquote>
When displayed in a prominent location – such as on your
gate post or by the front door – a Do Not Knock sticker sends a clear
message to salespeople – they are not welcome at this address.</blockquote>
<strong>Request your stickers from the following link</strong><br />
<a href="http://donotknock.org.au/take-action/get-the-sticker-2/">http://donotknock.org.au/take-action/get-the-sticker-2/</a><br />
Or get them from the following link, go down the list and look for
"Do Not Sticker" in the list, you can choose stickers and flyers, I just
entered "10" in the sticker quantity field, filled in my details, now I
wait!<br />
<a href="http://www.legalaid.vic.gov.au/orderform.htm">http://www.legalaid.vic.gov.au/orderform.htm</a><br />
Or print your own if you like<br />
<a href="http://donotknock.org.au/take-action/print-your-own/">http://donotknock.org.au/take-action/print-your-own/</a><br />
<blockquote>
Got a sticker but they just keep on knocking? This is
rare, but we’ve heard of a few isolated cases. Don’t let them get away
with it!</blockquote>
<a href="http://donotknock.org.au/take-action/make-a-complaint/">http://donotknock.org.au/take-action/make-a-complaint/</a><br />
<strong>Edit:</strong> Update<br />
These "Do Not Knock" stickers are absolutely wonderful, they
definitely deter door to door salespeople, never get door knockers any
more, get a few and give them to friends :o)</div>

I
have used Coles Online to do my shopping for quite a while now and
although they can be a pain in the arse, generally they aren't too bad,
but as we all know most of the big supermarkets don't always have great
quality fruit and vegetables or meat, so when I heard about this Aussie
Farmers Direct mob, I signed up. They took a long time until they were
delivering to my area, so long I can't remember how long it was lol,
finally they were here, I had almost forgotten about them. So I check
out their website now I do and have run websites and thought what a dogs
breakfast of a mess their site was, poorly designed, difficult to
navigate and hard to understand, nothing flowed with their ordering
process, it just wasn't intuitive at all. I gave up on them until just
the other day, they had someone going door to door, I generally despise
door to door sales people but the lass was pleasant enough and lucky for
her I had already signed up and was actually interested in trying them
out, I thought I would give this company a try. <br />
<br />
I did one test order, a "one off" I think they called it (you really
need a shopping cart for this in particular), she informed me that the
orders are delivered early in the morning, I just had to place the
supplied "soft esky bag" outside for the delivery guy to place the
"goods" in, she said I would most likely be asleep and I wouldn't even
hear him, seemed simple enough and it was for the first test delivery. I
thought great, ok I can get the mostly fresh food I need from Aussie
Farmers Direct even if it meant now having to use both "Aussie Farmers
Direct" and Coles Online, a little more complicated using two businesses
as opposed to one, but life was never meant to be easy now was it,
never a truer phrase as I found out. I really did want to support the
farmers but this company makes it so damn difficult to do that for me at
least anyway.<br />
<br />
Today I was expecting an order, part of my weekly delivery (fruit and
vegetables) they call this the Greengrocer, the first part of it, the
second part will come tomorrow (the bread and milk part of it) they call
this the Milkman so when I wake up I go to check the bag and it's
empty, no delivery, so I ring them up and sure enough I get that CSR
that doesn't seem to be able to understand plain english, most likely
one of the "New Generation" of geniuses, he couldn't find me on the
"system" he kept asking me for details firing questions at me, still not
able to find me in the "System" it's exactly this reason I despise
dealing with CSRs and prefer to do everything online these days, just
talking to a websites database by entering my details, I rarely have a
problem with that "System" I understand them, I get them, humans just
frustrate me and on this day the wonderful CSR from Aussie Farmers
Direct did exactly that, so much so I asked to speak to a Supervisor,
she was alright, she figured out without even asking for my details that
the delivery I was expecting was not due to arrive until later in the
day, I think your door to door sales girl misinformed me Aussie Farmers
Direct, oh and I also found out that I don't need to put that "cooler
bag" out for fruit and veg, seems strange, left out in the sun at the
front of my house asking to be stolen in the middle of the day, okaaaay,
what happens if I'm not home?<br />
<br />
<strong>Aussie Farmers Direct why don't you just give us an easy to
find customer number so we can quote that when dealing with your CSR's?</strong><br />
<strong><br /></strong>
Now I live in a fairly well let's just say crap area with crap
people, there I said it, so the thought of my deliveries being left
outside because of these "regular deliveries" from Aussie Farmers Direct
does not fill me with confidence that they will actually be there if
I'm not, when I get home from not being there. With Coles Online I can
pick the day and the time or at least a 2 or 3 hour window of time for
delivery, Aussie Farmers Direct's window of time is five hours, yep five
hours and you can't even pick that five hour window (I could live with
being able to pick the delivery window) even if it is five hours, with
Coles Online I can order it for an early time and wait for the door bell
to ring that I can even hear if I happen to be asleep, which is rare.<br />
<br />
This brings us to the next problem, "Payment" with Coles Online I pay
for my order when the delivery guy arrives. with Aussie Farmers Direct
apparently the money comes out of your account "sometime one week later"
sounds good I guess, but it isn't for me, I don't have a credit card, I
have a Mastercard debit card, so it's my money, not credit, I don't
have a money buffer I live on a fixed income. Ok I found out I could pay
some money in advance by phoning a......you guessed it, CSR, joy joy!
be great if I could do that online Aussie Farmers Direct, seriously. So I
did that, but as I say I needed to deal with a CSR instead of being
able to do it online, Aussie Farmers Direct your website leaves a lot to
be desired in many ways.<br />
<br />
<strong>Aussie Farmers Direct get some sort of shopping cart
"system", what you have now is not up to scratch for a wannabe online
business!</strong><br />
<strong><br /></strong>
Anyway, seriously I could probably write another page on this whole
saga, but suffice it to say until they have a rethink of their website
and their whole business model, well the user interface and payment
options at least, I can only see much stress in the future, Aussie
Farmers Direct I might give it a while until you sort things out before
attempting to order or use you again, sorry but you've lost me.<br />
Yep I did send feedback to them and received a reply that someone
will contact me, I will update this page if/when someone does, I really
don't think it will resolve anything unless they can fix their "system"
and actually find me on their "system" easily lol, but who knows. I
could see this working well for a large family that use credit cards and
basically knows what food they will use each week and where someone is
nearly always home and they live in a good area, but that aint my life,
not by a long shot!<br />
<br />
I want to make it clear that I have no affiliation with "Coles
Online" or any other such home delivery business, I don't even like
"Coles Online" all that much, they are often out of stock with my order
and occasionally the pickers forget items, but I can now say they are
the best of a bad bunch, or couple anyway. I really was hoping that
Aussie Farmers Direct would work for me, but today I have asked for the
money I had paid in advance to be credited back to my account.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update one 24-11-11 : They didn't get back to me today I have
a feeling that no company really wants feedback, they say they do, but
reality is a different story, also the money they owe me wasn't credited
to my account today either</strong><br />
<strong><br /></strong>
<strong>Update two 25-11-11 : No contact today, also the money they owe me still wasn't credited to my account today either</strong><br />
<strong><br /></strong>
<strong>Update three 26-11-11 : Obviously no contact today (it's
Saturday), I'm happy to say, the money they owed me was in my account
this morning so was credited back to my account overnight I am guessing,
thank you AFD for doing that in a timely manner at least</strong><br />
<strong><br /></strong>
<strong>Update four 3-12-11 : Haven't heard Boo from Aussie Farmers Direct, been over a week now, tossers!</strong><br />
I think I will stop the updates as I really doubt my feedback email
will ever be replied to, so bear that in mind if you ever decide to use
Aussie Farmers Direct, replying to feedback and trying to sort things
out just aint gonna happen! If by some chance they do eventually reply I
will update this page, but honestly I really do doubt they are the
least bit interested if you send feedback.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update Alert! 2-4-12</strong><br />
<a href="http://www.thegoss.com.au/content/aussie-farmers-direct-feed-back-three-months-later">http://www.thegoss.com.au/content/aussie-farmers-direct-feed-back-three-...</a> <br />
Well I said I would update this blog if I was ever contacted by
"Aussie Farmers Direct", ok it is over 3 months ago, but I did receive
an email from AFD just this week, apparently I'm a very busy celebrity,
because every time they ring me, I am never home lol. My next blog will
be all about cabin fever as I rarely leave the house.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update 25-4-12</strong><br />
I was contacted by Matthew (Quality Assurance Specialist) at Aussie
Farmers Direct about my issues, anyway Matthew gave me a credit of $50
to try AFD I did not ask for this, but in the spirit of trying to work
things out, I accepted the gift, I probably spent about half of it, I
didn't accept the gift just to get "free stuff", it's not how I roll. <br />
<br />
I went through AFD's products and really tried to make it work, I
added all the things they have that are allowed with the Paleo diet (I'm
doing this diet for better health and to lose weight) when all was said
and done AFD just didn't have the variety I needed, they had the meat
pretty much covered but fell short with their vegetables, the salmon was
a bit more expensive and I love Salmon, but other than that I just
couldn't do a full shop of the food I needed. It would mean that I would
still have to order from Coles as well, just when I was trying to
minimise my shop from Coles Online.<br />
<br />
Being on a Disability Pension it really is very important I manage my
funds well, it makes it a little difficult when you can't pay for your
delivered food at the time of delivery, I don't want the money I owe to
come out of my account a week later, it's just too confusing and under
no circumstance do I want to incur bloody scumbag bank fees, this is my
problem of course but it makes it difficult to use Aussie Farmers
Direct, I really do want to support our farmers even though I suspect
Country folk don't particularly like City people, a friend said to me
years ago that I'm not really in a position to shop ethically or morally
and he was right, I don't have the income to shop like that
unfortunately, I just need food to eat, I wish I had a farmers market
near me but alas that's not the case, I haven't found one anyway.<br />
<br />
I do think the food is of very good quality and better than when I
was ordering from Meadow Heights (vegetables anyway), meat has always
been good quality in both locations, so sure the prices are a little
more expensive but if you have the money I think it's worth it, as long
as you can handle some of the AFD website quirks, I still think that
part of it could be a lot better. Even though I am on a strict diet with
less options I do try and vary the products I buy each week, variety is
the spice of life so they say and I agree, you shouldn't be eating
exactly the same things every week, I know families that have set meals
because of circumstance and I reckon I would go stir crazy if I was in
that position.<br />
<br />
I was told they have some good things coming at Aussie
Farmers Direct, if that ends up eventuating I may try them again, I
still stand by what I have written in this blog, but credit where due,
when AFD finally got back to me (some three months later while I was in
the middle of moving premises) at least they tried their best to fix the
issues I was having, so I am finished with this Aussie Farmers Direct
blog and wish them well in the future, hopefully they are a business
that will be more interested in customer feedback in the future and who
knows they may even see the points I was trying to make, I really do
hope so :)</div>

Communications minister, Senator Stephen Conroy, has sought to
position the National Broadband Network (NBN) as a means to connect
those who are digitally isolated as a result of age, illness or
disability.<br />
<br />
Addressing attendees at the National Digital Inclusion Summit, Conroy
said the NBN would enable socially isolated Australians to chat, browse
and shop, access services and information and connect with their
community outside the walls of their home.<br />
<br />
<br />
“For many isolated Australians the walls or their home define the
world, setting the boundaries of their social contact. The internet has
the power to dissolve those walls,” Conroy said.<br />

<br />
Being disabled the NBN will be a god send for me, I basically live
online, well I do go out every now and then, but the net brings the
world to me, right inside my home.Darinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02115027823927486765noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2365286001836230588.post-66083077355124438792011-07-28T14:45:00.000+10:002013-07-14T16:03:58.816+10:00Charities using telemarketers! Beware of (03) 8803 7699<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUjp3LD99mFu54-vbiBYkbuyzIQCVnvOKYA7iN1V-iKlcTqEtq5WJE4quRWo906IDsYa4HT9cdEI2cbS2tEt7U62UCGjImmnRuhtCy_W34FTk34oZH9d2IIeN4ef8OyOXlc-VfMSxyXjE/s1600/people_juliane_krug_01b.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUjp3LD99mFu54-vbiBYkbuyzIQCVnvOKYA7iN1V-iKlcTqEtq5WJE4quRWo906IDsYa4HT9cdEI2cbS2tEt7U62UCGjImmnRuhtCy_W34FTk34oZH9d2IIeN4ef8OyOXlc-VfMSxyXjE/s200/people_juliane_krug_01b.png" width="200" /></a></div>
I have decided that I will never donate to any charity that uses a telemarketing service to handle their cold calling for donations. I always wonder why charities don't employ the people they are meant to be representing, now I understand that wouldn't work in all cases, but it would in some instances eg. disability charities, homeless charities and the like. I just don't get why they want to employ a company, which no doubt takes a large slice of the pie from the received donations. The world has gone mad!!!<br />
<br />
Middle men, the biggest waste of space I can think of, always tacking on a little more to the price for doing very little, if anything, to add value to a product, bring back local markets, trash and treasure markets and farmers markets, why is there always someone in the bloody middle.<br />
<br />
I know for a fact many of the disabled for example would be happy to have a job and the charity could say "we only use the disabled etc. to call asking for donations" "You help this charity in more ways than one! You help to empower people by making a donation". Set them up with a VoIP box if they have ADSL, give them a list of numbers and get them working and feeling good about themselves.<br />
<br />
Of course I am only an idiot, I only see common sense, I don't have a piece of paper on my wall, I am just disabled ;o)<br />
<br />
I have been getting calls from this number <b>(03) 8803 7699</b> soon as I pick up it hangs up on me, I have had at least five calls from this number all hanging up as soon as I answer, it's not wanted and downright rude. At least if someone was on the other end you could say right there and then "please take me off your lists or database" but nope you don't get the chance, I can only call it harassment and it should be illegal. Upon further investigation I happened across this gem of site that had an entry about the phone number <b>(03) 8803 7699</b><br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.reverseaustralia.com/lookup/0388037699/">http://www.reverseaustralia.com/lookup/0388037699/</a><br />
<br />
it seems if you keep refreshing the page the comments from different people seem to cycle through, one of the posts is from "Mike" his comment is as follows<br />
<br />
<blockquote>I'm from Smart Health. We make calls on behalf of Australian charities to raise much needed dollars for them. The reason that calls don't answer if someone calls us back is that we use a predictive dialler to make outbound calls and don't allow inbound calls on that number. For each charity, we have a gift line number which is used to answer donor queries. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.<br />
<br />
Best regards<br />

<blockquote class="tr_bq">
The company who tried to contact you is Austview Holdings, trading as Smart Health Australia.<br />The ADMA believes that the company is a charity. Calls made by charities do not fall within the Do Not Call Register Act(2006), however charitable calls are still subject to to the Telecommunications Industry Standard and limits the hours that they can call, requires them to enable calling line identification and requires them to provide certain information to consumers.</blockquote>
<br />
Their web address is <i>www.sha.net.au</i> and Head Office phone number is <b>03 8554 6100</b>. Ring them up and let them know how you feel!<br />
<br />
It really is a shame that charities resort to using businesses like this to do the donation collecting, I for one will not donate to charities that use these types of companies! Employ the people who most need it charities, employ the people who you are meant to be helping!<br />

The funny thing is they are, harassing, one of the people they are meant to be helping ;o)</div>

Well if I ever get access to the NBN at my place, I know who I will
be going with, Exetel, having been with them before, I have no problem
recommending them, Exetel's prices consistently trump the others. I am
with iPrimus naked at the moment and although I am happy, I have my
doubts their NBN prices will beat Exetel's.<br />
<h3>
Media Release</h3>
Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy,
Senator Stephen Conroy, today welcomed further news that competition by
internet retail service providers was bringing good news for National
Broadband Network (NBN) customers.<br />
<br />
Senator Conroy said Exetel’s announcement today of its entry level
price of $34.50 was almost half that released by Internode last week and
even lower than the sub-$40 package mooted by budget provider Dodo last
Friday.<br />
<br />
“As each day passes we are seeing competition in the retail NBN
access market drive prices lower. This is great news for internet
consumers,” Senator Conroy said.<br />
<br />
“It is now time for Tony Abbott and Malcolm Turnbull to stand up and
admit they have been deliberately misleading the Australian public about
the NBN.”<br />
<br />
Senator Conroy said he was looking forward to even more pricing announcements by retail service providers over coming weeks.<br />
<br />
He added that consumers needed to be wary of misleading media reports
which were not accurately comparing the details of NBN access pricing
packages.<br />
<br />
“In many cases it is extremely difficult to make a proper comparison
of packages because the speeds actually being delivered by internet
service providers currently using today’s aging copper infrastructure
are often well below what they are advertised to be,” he said.<br />
<br />
“Another thing consumers should be aware of is that some media
reports are not including line rental when they quote current internet
plan prices, which is approximately $30 on top of the plan cost.<br />
<br />
“The NBN is creating a network that will cater to the future needs of
Australia, a network that will end the digital divide between
metropolitan and regional Australia and one that will make Australia a
world-leading digital economy.”<br />

been waiting for someone else to bring something out. I guess it needs
lots of people who have been invited so people don't get bored and
pissed off waiting. I will add some more later when I have had a play

Free Lossless Audio Codec (FLAC) is a file format for lossless audio data compression. Being lossless, FLAC does not remove information from the audio stream, as lossy compression formats such as MP3, AAC, and Vorbis do. FLAC's primary author is Josh Coalson.<br />
<br />
I have found the FLAC file format to be a wonderful standard to collect my music in and then convert to the size or quality I require for a particular device or storage format.<br />
<br />
<h2>
</h2>
<h2>
MP3's sound shit in comparison to FLAC's</h2>
<h3>
FLAC Quality</h3>
FLAC reduces bandwidth and storage requirements without sacrificing the integrity of the audio source. A digital audio recording (such as a CD track) encoded to FLAC can be decompressed into an identical copy of the audio data. Audio sources encoded to FLAC are typically reduced in size 40 to 50 percent (46% according to their own comparison).

<br />
FLAC is suitable for everyday audio playback and archival, with support for tagging, cover art and fast seeking. FLAC's free and open source royalty-free nature makes it well-supported by many software applications, but FLAC playback support in portable audio devices and dedicated audio systems is limited at this time.
On January 29, 2003, Xiphophorus (now called the Xiph.Org Foundation) announced the incorporation of FLAC under their banner, alongside Vorbis, Theora, Speex, and others.

<br />
I recently purchased some decent speakers for my HTPC, the Altec Lansing MX-5021's having mainly MP3's and only one FLAC format album on my music partition, enabled me to realise that the difference between the MP3 and FLAC formats was truly amazing. MP3's lost the comparison hands down obviously!
Why have a heap of CDs laying about when you have large hard drives these days, yes a FLAC ripped CD is still quite large, though it's well worth it for the CD quality you get.
It's funny I don't consider myself an audiophile at all I only have essentially PC speakers albeit decent quality units, but playing poor quality MP3's through them just wasn't right ;o)
<br />
<h3>
RubyRipper</h3>
I use Ubuntu Linux, usually the latest version, so being new to the world of FLAC audio files, I had to learn how to rip my CD collection to FLAC using what Linux had to offer, after a bit of research and googling, I stumbled on to RubyRipper It is very similar to and inspired by EAC (Exact Audio Copy).<br />
<br />
<a href="http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?title=Rubyripperhttp://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?title=EAC" target="_blank">http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?title=Rubyripperhttp://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php?title=EAC</a><br />
<br />
RubyRipper has a simple non flashy interface, which makes it very easy to understand and setup just the way you like to do your music CD ripping/converting to FLAC and other formats.
I am now a Free Lossless Audio Codec (FLAC) convert, I will never go back to MP3's again!
